My favourite time of the year has always been that moment when the clock strikes 12am on every December 31st night, ushering in the new year……the cross-over……Magical! I really can't describe that feeling. It’s a feeling of accomplishment, of victory, of extreme gratitude, of hope, of anticipation and joy all rolled in one! Every 31st night, i just stay awake praying with my family into the new year, all the while fixing my eyes on my wall-clock, wristwatch or phone, waiting for the cheer and the celebratory display of fireworks which follow that moment.

In 2013, i had a lot to be thankful for. God was just too wonderful to me and mine……and i really cannot thank Him enough. Is it easy to be alive from year to year? Do you know how many people that cross over into the new year bed-ridden and occupying hospital beds? So many are sorrow-laden and burdened with heavy hearts….so why shouldn’t i praise Him? He fulfilled all His promises to me in 2013. On the afternoon of the 31st of December 2012, i was taking a midday nap when i dreamt about someone who told me to name 2013 my year of light and fruitfulness. I did just that, and everything i did throughout the year yielded fruit…..isn’t that amazing? My resolution in 2013 was to always put God first in everything i did. I stuck to it, and it really changed my life. I’ll continue with that this new year and watch God at work.

My makeup career for instance who woulda thunk that i would have come this far in just the space of 1 year and 2 months? Did i even know my wee ‘lil blog will have an audience? I owe all this to God and to you my lovely loyal readers and clients…..may God bless you all for me. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

2014, i’m soooo ready for you! I’m filled with excitement and anticipation ‘cos i have a feeling that God will hammer me with one big surprise this year even though i have no clue what it is yet. Do you know what it is? Come whisper in my ear..loolz! I have a lot lined up for my blog and my business. Watch out for more content and quality. My studio will also officially open this year, and of course i’m having a new-born baby this year *widest grin ever*. Chai i can't wait to stroke the curly hair and rub baby powder and oil on the baby.

Mish is already curious about the baby and i think it’s time to start getting her ready for the big  arrival. Next time i go to the ‘Game’ store at the palms, i’ll buy her one of those baby dolls complete with a change of clothes, feeding bottles the stroller and tiny car seat. That way, she’ll understand all that will happen when the baby arrives. Dindu doesn’t even care about all that mushy stuff…..all he wants is my ipad. I don’t even know who owns the ipad anymore…..me or him…he always wants to play one game or the other. He’s memorized my password and unlocks it at will. Do you know that most times, when i’m using my ipad and i hear his footsteps approaching, i quickly hide it under the bed, chair, pillow, wherever……yes it haff rish like that ooo!

My prayer for you this year is that God’s face will shine upon you all, and you will experience the best of 2014. You will not have sorrow, you will not mourn, you will know no pain. God will elevate and bless you all with health, joy, prosperity and peace this year, and no plan of your enemies will be established.

So this year will be beautiful. I believe i will have cause to rejoice and laugh all year round. I will experience no disappointments, sorrow or pain…NEVER! Hence, i have named it 'My year of joy and laughter'

What did you name yours?

Happy new yearrrrr!!!!!

Lanre got re-defined!

Today is the last saturday of the year! Can you believe it? I'm so grateful to God...you have no idea! 2014 is just next week ooooo! 4 days away, so how far....any new resolutions?

Last saturday was my big sister's wedding, and i thought she was going to be my last bride for the year, but some days ago, i was contacted to do Lanre's makeup today...... how could i refuse eh kwa?

So today was the big day. I keep wondering what it is about wedding days that make the brides glow even before their makeup is applied.....there is this beautiful glow about them that i love.....perhaps it's the joy and excitement emanating from within. Noice! Lanre was no different today...black is indeed beaurrriful.

B 'n D makeover | Glittery christmas

I did a christmas look this morning using the main christmas colors i know.....Red, gold and green. I added a little pizzaz by topping it all with a little gold glitter, and then i 'ruby woo-ed' my lips...

Lookey see.....

It's another christmas, how wonderful!

Thank you God for keeping us all. It's not easy at all. Some people died yesterday....yet here we all are.

I can't believe how fast this year went.....or is it just me? Today for the first time, i didn't stay home all day on christmas day, rather i went out with my family to go have some christmasy fun!

I remember how fun christmas used to be when we were kids. We travelled to our village every year (our dogs inclusive) and on christmas day, my mum would cook up a storm and visitors would keep trooping into our house. It was always so cold there but we loved it!

Thank you so much!

Good morning lovelies.....

How are you all doing? I trust that all is well.

Today, i decided to do do a "Thank you" post. We didn't win the award for the 'Best beauty blog' this time, but hey!......there are other years to come. Honestly, i really didn't expect to win *covers face*

Well, for one...because my blog is still not even up to a year old, and the other nominees in my category had been there long before me. That's why my nomination came as a huge shock to me! It hit me "WHAM!" and left me breathless. Till today, i keep wondering how come?

Nonye got re-defined!

Good morning dears....

The lovely Nonye booked my services as early as February this year for a bridal makeover on her wedding day which was yesterday the 14th of December. I was surprised that she booked so early, and i was humbled at the same time because she didn't want anyone else to book my services for that same day. She got to know me through this blog.

The Christmas beauty a'fair in pictures

My dears, finally i attended a makeup fair!

It’s no longer news that i missed the last fair (LMUF) and that i was totally heart-broken about that….. so last Sunday, i knew that even rain would not have stopped me from attending the Christmas beauty a’fair.  I had no one to accompany me, and i didn’t know how to get there but i just entered my car and drove off to Ikeja knowing that somehow, i WOULD get to the venue. Thankfully, there was no traffic from Festac to Ikeja, so i got there in record time.... it wasn't hard to find afterall.

When i got there, guess who the first people i saw were…….Sisi Yemmie and Bobo Yommie in the flesh!!! Choi….see my excitement…..as in i totally didn’t expect to see them there.  She really is a pleasant person, and she said she loved my makeup *bats eyelashes*

BETTER LIVING | Christ in you.

Some days ago, a friend of mine shared a link with our bible-study group on blackberry. That story touched hasn't left my mind since, so i thought to share it with you all in this 'Better-living' segment. Please read it, and i pray it touches a part of you too......

Pastor Jeremiah Steepek transformed himself into a homeless person and went to the 10,000 member church that he was to be introduced as the head pastor at that morning.

He walked around his soon to be church for 30 minutes while it was filling with people for service, only 3 people out of the 7-10,000 people said hello to him.

He asked people for change to buy food – no one in the church gave him change.

He went into the sanctuary to sit down in the front of the church and was asked by the ushers if he would please sit in the back.

He greeted people to be greeted back with stares and dirty looks, with people looking down on him and judging him.

As he sat in the back of the church, he listened to the church announcements and such.

When all that was done, the elders went up and were excited to introduce the new pastor of the church to the congregation.

“We would like to introduce to you Pastor Jeremiah Steepek.” The congregation looked around clapping with joy and anticipation.

The homeless man sitting in the back stood up and started walking down the aisle. The clapping stopped with all eyes on him.

He walked up the altar and took the microphone from the elders (who were in on this) and paused for a moment then he recited,

“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

‘The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

After he recited this, he looked towards the congregation and told them all what he had experienced that morning. Many began to cry and many heads were bowed in shame.

He then said, “Today I see a gathering of people, not a church of Jesus Christ. The world has enough people, but not enough disciples. When will YOU decide to become disciples?”

He then dismissed service until next week.

Following in the footsteps of Jesus Christ should be more than just talk. It ought to be a lifestyle that others around you can love about you and share in.

So my questions to you today are.......

"If you were part of the congregation, would you have said 'hello' to the homeless man? Would you have given him change to buy food if he asked you? Would you have answered him if he greeted you?"

I leave you to ponder....And i hope this strikes a chord in you like it did in me.

B 'n D makeover

B'n D makeover at last! pheeew!

I've been too lazy to do a makeover and pictorial for my blog in the past weeks mostly 'cos i had no strngth sometimes, then on the days i had strength, my skin would be looking coarse and dry despite moisturizing....this baby sure has a lot of questions to answer when he/she gets here. My lips nko? Always drying up. My lip balm doesn't work well for me anymore, so i have to change it. Even my deodorant, i had to change. My hormones are just raging out of control...

Ogini bu ife nka?!

Oh well, i eventually succeeded in doing a makeover and even the pictorial too....the pictorial will be posted tomorrow sha. Today, just look at the pictures....... *sticks out tongue*

BH cosmetics 'Smokey eyes' palette

I dunno why people drive so crazy in Lagos. Sometimes, it's scary....other times, i join them jare! I swear down...they can make even pastors loose their cool. See me, even when i promise God that i will not commit sin throughout the day, some driver will make me yell "Waka! idiot! ekwensu!" all in one breath...... Jeez!

Its a terrible suntin. *takes a moment* *ok, rant over*

So yesterday, i said i would show you all the BH 'smokey eyes' palette.....Eeeeeeeees show time!

MUA alert!

Good morning dolls……
Today, i want to introduce a makeup artist to you. I used to do these MUA alert series (i think i did only 3 in the past and then i stopped. I thought of reviving it, and then Ugo gave me a ‘lil push….here we are) because i thought it will be nice for readers in different states to get to know the MUAs in their neighbourhoods and have direct access to them. You get to read about how they started (this would encourage up-coming MUAs) and also view some pictures of their works.

So ladies and prospective brides in the east, meet Adaobi Aso a makeup artist based in Owerri. I had the pleasure of interviewing her…..enjoy…..

Bella and Rita graduates!

Two of my students graduated a few weeks ago, and i apologise for just posting it now *sheepish smile*

Meet Bella and Rita.

They decided to take advantage of the on-going ASUU strike to learn a trade (by the way, that strike has gone on long enough ahn-ahn! kilode sef? I hear it might be called off this thursday, so lets keep our fingers crossed).

I think it was a good thing they made that choice 'cos now it means that they have accquired the knowledge of a skill which they would definately earn from while even in school. So, they came, learnt, and were awarded certificates.....Kudos babes!

Errrrrm.....Bella didn't want to shave off too much of her younger sister's brows 'cos of school issues. So she had to work with her brows that way.

PRODUCT REVIEW | Sleek 'Papaya punch' and 'Candy cane' lipsticks, Zaron's 'Red vines' lip liner, and Princessa's 'Slate blue' eye liner.

Hey lovelies……..how have y’all been?

I’ve been feeling better lately (seems the storm is subsiding) thank God.  So this post is a review on some products i recently got (Finally...a review!). I’ve been wanting to get them for a while, but it was either that they weren’t in stock, or that i just didn’t have the strength to go to the store (yep, ‘twas that bad). So finally, i got them, tried them and decided to share my findings.

I got the Zaron ‘Red vines’ lip liner pencil, and two sleek lipsticks in ‘Candy cane’ and ‘Papaya punch’, then as an extra, i also got an eyeliner pencil by Princessa in ‘Slate blue’.

My people, lemme gist you oooo! I walked into one very beautiful store like that to purchase the lipsticks. I already had the normal price in mind ‘cos i like to make a budget and try not to exceed it by over-spending. So i entered there and asked if they had the sleek lipsticks. The attendant said they did, so i asked her for the price. She asked me to hold on while she checked for the price. Next thing, she opened her mouth and said N5,000.

Hoin??!! E say??!!!

Ndi b’anyi,  my eyes were as wide as saucers. I said to her “Nne, biko check well”  She showed me the price on the system, words failed me.  I jejely picked up my purse and keys from the counter and left the store. If i wanted a 5k lippie, i would have bought a MAC for goodness sakes! I went to another store and bought the lipsticks for N1,500 each…. I’m even certain that i would have seen them for N1,200 sef elsewhere.

Imagine that! What a mess!

So on to the business of the day...........

B 'n D makeover | Nigeria - Mygeria

Happy independence beauties!

How have you all been? You have to pardon me for been MIA for days on end. Most of you know what's up with me now, and it's not easy i tell ya! Most days, i just don't want to get out of bed. Why on earth do they call it 'morning sickness' when it lasts all day long?!

Well, today, i just had to do an 'indepencence look' with our green and white colors in the spirit of patriotism.

Here are a couple of pictures...

B' n D makeover | 70's

Are the pictures below how they looked in the 70's?

I wonder too.....but this look had to have a name right? Loolz!

Hello dolls. So sorry for the break in transmission......i was under the weather for sometime, but don't worry, it's the good kind of sickness though *winks*

I did this look 2 days ago, and i'm only mustering the strength to post it today 'cos i couldn't bear to let a whole week go by without a post. Chukwu aju!

I read all the comments on the giveaway, and i promise to give u all what you mentioned that you want to see more of.....well.....so help me God. About the video tutorials, i'm still 'fearing' ooooo! Ok, you know what? once i get a good, easy-to-use video editor and of course a tripod for my DSLR cam, i will start working on it right away.

Video tutorials are much more easier than pictorials....i dey tell you! It's not easy to take pictures of every step of your makeup application, and then go ahead to type and explain step-by-step. Ko easy rara. So that's why i'm seriously giving the video tutorials thinghy a thought. Hey, if you know a good video editor, please let me know.

Meanwhile, here are pictures from the '70's' look.....

Yeah...tried out the Demi wispies......and i'm in looooove!

The foundation test

I think it’s time to talk about foundation and how to apply it. Overtime, i have noticed that quite a number of ladies do not know how to choose the correct foundation shade for their skin. Most ladies keep using the wrong shade thinking it’s their actual shade because some store-owner or cosmetics seller convinced them that it is their shade. A typical example would be the MaryKay bronze 507. You won’t believe how many ladies that insist bronze 507 is their shade…..even ladies darker than i am!

This is a crucial topic because many-a-times, i have seen ladies rocking faces that are either darker or lighter than their other parts (especially lighter). This should stop…..as in seriously! Your foundation should never be a shade lighter or darker than your skin complexion. Rather, it should be a perfect blend into your complexion. You gerrrit?

My ardell 'wispies' & 'fairies'

'Ello readers!
Hope you all are doing good. First of all…..i want to say a very big “THANK YOU!” To you all for all the birthday wishes and prayers. Y’all are the very best, and may God bless you one by one.
Did i have a party? Did i go out?
Errrrrrr…..no i didn’t. I was over-whelmed with the fact that i’m getting old, so i just stayed home….in bed. Dindu and Mish popped in once in a while to play though. By the way….that Mish ehn! She believes that only two people in the whole world are allowed to have birthdays…..Herself and her brother. When i announced to them a day before the 8th that it was mummy’s birthday tomorrow, Mish gave me a big wack at the back of my head and yelled “No it’s Dindu’s own birthday!”
I can't come and be dragging birthday with a shild, so i meekly accepted that perhaps it was really Dindu’s ‘own’ birthday! #Sigh.
So, did i at least get a cake?......Hof kes!!! What’s a birthday without a cake? I got a yummy carrot cake from hubby who knew that i had been craving Chocolate Royale’s carrot cake for a while now.
So, yesterday, i got myself two ardell false lashes and an eyelash curler. I’ve always wanted to get myself a pair of ardell wispies lashes, but i decided to wait till my current pack of falsies (Believe me when i say they have no name….or rather, i have no idea what they are called…..it’s written in Chinese though….ok, so technically, it has a name but i don’t know what it is) finish before getting some ardell ones.
Those are the N100 MAC pencils i usually mention.....they are really nice!

B'n D makeover | Black smoke and a pop of lime

Some weekends are just .......'bleh!'

Infact, maybe it's not the weekend's fault. I think it's just me. My laziness these days ehn.......no comparisim....onweghi atu.

Well, in order not to let today go to waste, i tried out a new look christened 'Black smoke and a pop of lime'. Y'all know that i dont like my smokey looks overly smokey....so i stopped building up the black eyeshadow at a point and just blended out the smoke.

By the way, that is lime green in the inner corner.....for some reason, it wasnt vibrant enough in the pics.

Hello blog readers.

Today, i thought to share something with you which has been on my mind for sometime. If you know and love God, then this topic won't be strange to you......it's about worship.

You know that we were made to worship Him right?

There's this saying i came across somewhere....can't remember where exactly, but it says...

When you do for God what He can’t do for Himself, then He will do for you what you can’t do for yourself

I don't know if God can worship Himself or not, but i do know that it is what we are meant to do. It is our major life-purpose. Same way, we definately can't bless ourselves, that's why we ask God to do that for us. True worship comes from the heart.... a pure heart. You can't worship God from a filthy heart filled with bitterness and what else have you. Worship means reverent love and devotion.

Why do you worship Him? Is it because of what He has given to you or just because of whom He is? These questions brings us to two kinds of worship i have discovered

·        Worship because of what God has done
·        Worship because of whom He is

It is very easy to worship God because of what He has done for you. You can easily worsip Him for His many blessings and all He has given you....but what about the other kind of worship which is just worshipping and adoring Him just for the fact that He is God, the maker of the universe, the I am that I am, Jehovah Tsidkenu, yaweh, Jireh, Shammah, Shalom, Elshaddai, Nissi, Elohim, Adonai, Ebenezer (i could go on and on). To me, that is just the purest kind of worship

Now, how do you worship God?

Here are some ways.......

You can worship God in song....through singing to Him from your heart. You can devote a morning devotion session to worshipping God through songs from your heart. Here's what Psalm 95:1 says:

“Come let us sing for joy to the Lord, let us shout aloud to the rock of our salvation”

Another way to worship God is through prayer. God loves it when we worshsip Him in devoted, heart-felt prayers. If you start your day with a worship-filled prayer, you will feel so filled with God's spirit all day long. Psalm 27:8 says:

“My heart says of you ‘seek His face!’ Your face Lord i will seek”

Did you know that giving is a form of worship? I mean giving offerings to God, and also giving to others in love. Hebrews 13:16 has this to say:

“And don’t forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God”

If you genuinely love God, you will just want to worship him every chance you get. You would frequently feel that urge in your spirit to go to your maker in a state of worship (In your car, while working, any free time you get, etc. You don't have to light candles, wear a white robe and hum under your breath) and the joy you would feel while doing that is indescribable. No wonder the bible said..

In His presence is fullness of joy

Worship Him with all your heart and soul today....just worship Him because He's God.

Random tips

Hello dolls.....

Bringing some random tips your way....

When applying makeup products...any makeup product at all, build it up gradually. Don't just pack the product on, and then when you discover it's too much, you try to reduce it by cleaning some off. Remember that it's harder to clean off makeup than it is to apply.....what's more, your work will no longer look flawless. Soooooo.....build it up.

I hurriedly did this look this morning while a training session was going on. While my students worked on their faces, i worked on mine. I had to do it because i knew that if i didn't do it at that time, i would never have the time to do it anymore till next week.

So this is what i did.........

Happy birthday Dindu!

On this day 4 years ago, I was ecstatically cuddling my swaddled new born baby boy. He was my very first baby, and I was sooooo excited! The 9 months journey was a very long one, and I was so impatient! I couldn't wait for it to end so that I could meet my son (I already knew I was having a boy.....I always check to know their sex at exactly 20 weeks of my pregnancies).
Initially, I longed for a baby girl, but when I scanned and was told that I was having a boy, I swallowed my disappointment and relished the fact that I was having a baby.

Before I got married, one of my greatest fears was the fear of labour. I had heard and read different terrifying stories. I had even watched scary videos that shocked me out of my wits, and I made up my mind that whenever I decided to have a baby, epidural was the way to go! So when I eventually got married and preggers, I had to come to terms with the fact that I might not have epidural available to take when in labour. So I decided to make it a prayer-point that my child-birth would be pain free. "Ask and ye shall receive" eh?

When i was 37 weeks gone, i heard of this book called "Supernatural childbirth" written by Jackie Mize, so I marched waddled into 'Laterna' bookstore at V.I and bought a copy. Thankfully, it was an interesting read and I read it with absolute faith. I prayed, declared and confessed everything in the book up till my 39th week when I went into labour..... I was totally expecting a pain-free labour. I made some prayer points such as:

1). Since I wanted a painless labour, i wanted my water to break as a sign that it was time to go to the hospital. And I didn't want it to burst with a whoosh. I wanted it to trickle out like weewee 'cos I didn't want to stain my white mattress.

2). I wanted a maximum of 4 hrs of labour as opposed to the 10- 16 hrs everyone were singing about (first time mums are supposed to have long labours).

3). I wanted to be dilated up to 6 cm by the time I got to the hospital.

4). I wanted my water to break in the very early hours of the morning so that the road would be free 'cos I was going all the way to Ikoyi from Festac.

5). I wanted to just push twice and my baby would be out. (I had heard stories of women who pushed for 30 mins -1 hr).

So on the much-awaited day,  my water trickled out like weewee by 2:30am (prayer points 1 &4), so we got to the hospital in record time. When I was checked, I was already 6 cm dilated (prayer point 3), and I wasn't feeling any pain oooooo! Just a little discomfort in my lower back.
When they took me upstairs to the delivery room, the main labour started, but it was just a mild discomfort to me. I remember thinking through the contractions.....

"Is this it? Is this the "painful labour"? Hian!

Before I knew it, I felt this uncontrollable strong urge to push. It felt like I wanted to poo big time! When I told them, they said it was my baby coming. I pushed 2 times ( prayer point 5) and at exactly 6:30am, Dindu emerged squalling loudly. My labour was exactly 4 hours ( prayer point 2)......... Isn't God awesome?! I eventually didn't need the epidural afterall.

Today, my Dindu is 4 years old, and i'm wondering where all the time went. Chai! These shiderns can grow fast ehn! Before we all know it now, his voice will change, he'll start growing beards and chasing girls. Next thing, he'll bring one girl home and say he wants to marry her! Choi! Now I understand why some mothers-in-law are so mean and over-protective of their sons. God will help me in Jesus name! Infact, He'll help us all.

Of course, Mish Mish had to show hersef!

God bless you Dindu! May He preserve and keep you. He will protect you from evil eyes and no weapon ever fashioned against you shall prosper. Greatness is you, and you will always be years ahead of your generation. May your star continue to shine. Again, God bless you!
