This post was inspired by a question one of my readers Tosin asked me earlier today. The question was actually in a comment on one of my old posts on blackheads. Tosin asked :
Hi Tosin, i'm sorry i couldn't reply as a comment because my reply is kinda long, so i decided to turn it into a post instead so that others who have the same issue you have will benefit from the info i'm about to give you.
My reply :
Pores are small openings in your which provide a way for your body to flush out toxins, regulate temperature and moisturize dry skin, so they are actually for a good reason. Without our pores, we wouldn't be able to sweat, and our bodies would overheat, so you see? They are very useful....but because of the problems they can cause like acne, blackheads, how unsightly they look and the other stuff, we forget how useful they are.
Now some people have unavoidably large pores (genetically or otherwise). You can't shrink them permantly or make them disappear, but there are definately things which you can do to reduce their appearance and make them less visible
TIPS ON REDUCING THE APPEARANCE OF PORES ON YOUR FACE
****First of all.... (I can't say or type "first of all" without hearing "go down low" in my head......help me!)
*Takes a deep breath*
Ok, first of all, keep your pores clean by using a cleanser to wash your face twice a day. Pores get enlarged when they are clogged with dirt and oil, so keep your face clean and deep-cleanse your pores. Don't leave makeup on your face, always wash it all off at the end of the day. When cleansing, wash your face with warm water because warm water opens up your pores so that you can get all the dirt out. If you have time, steam your face. It will open up your pores and unclog them.....this is how.... Simply fill a basin with hot water. Then hold your face over the basin and cover your face and the basin with a towel. Stay that way for 3-5 minutes.
****Always exfoliate (once a week) to get rid of dead skin cells and prevent them from blocking your pores, inflaming them and leading to acne. This will ensure that you have smooth skin.....oily but smooth (some people with dry skin have large pores though).
****There are pore minimizing creams which will help reduce the appearance of large pores....they do this by boosting your skin's production of glycoaminoglycans which helps in firming up the skin around the pores.
****Use products that are labelled "Noncomedogenic". This means that such products won't block your pores... It's true that they are already large, but you wouldn't want them blocked too, would you?
****Use a good primer before applying your makeup, it will make your face appear smoother despite the pores, and your makeup.....flawless.
****A lemon mask or a yoghurt mask will help tighten your pores and make them smaller. Apply a thin layer of plain yoghurt on your face and let it stay for 5-10 minutes.....not longer than 10 minutes oooo! If you choose a lemon mask, drench a small washcloth with lemon juice and wet the affected areas of your face. Let it stay for about a minute, then wash it off. Do this once a week (either the lemon or the yoghurt mask). However, don't forget to to a patch-test first to see if you would react to the lemon acid.

****Eat citrus fruits like oranges or tangerines. They produce firmer skin and rebuild collagen, which helps to increase the elasticity of your skin and reduce your pore walls.

Hope one of the tips above helps you. See why i said it was just too long for the comment section? *smiles*. By the way, the above tips are in no particular order.....just glean what you can from them.
You're very welcome...
