And 2014 is a wrap!

Do you remember 12am of January 1st 2014?

Do you remember the joy, the exhilaration, the rush of hope?

Do you remember the over-whelming excitement and bliss you felt while thinking "OMG! We made it!!!"

Wonderful!

I remember all those things and more. I remember making no new year resolutions *I end up breaking them 2 days later anyway*, and i remember making such wonderful plans for my makeup business and my blog. I remember being 5 months pregnant, and being worried sick about having complications during my delivery because i didn't want to have another still birth.

Glory be to God, 2014 was good to me! In April, i gave birth to the most beautiful baby girl *who has now grown into an 8 months old 'lil madam* via CS and without complications....God is soooooo good!

My makeup school has grown in leaps and bounds, i was interviewed on the radio, my blog has amassed so many readers, and my pageviews is currently at 846,686 *to the glory of God*. I wrote 155 posts this year, and i get so many positive and over-whelming feedbacks from you my wonderful readers *I can never thank you all enough!*.

I got exclusive invites to events, some i attended and some i couldn't for good reasons. Also in 2014, the amazing Beauty Africa Exhibition & Conference was held. I remember how much fun that was..... i love my job!!!!

I bought my own domain name, and i made a change from blushesanddimples.blogspot.com to blushesanddimples.com.......yes, it's a big deal. you'll even admit that the latter sounds more professional than the former *winks*.

Finally, i added another wing to 'Blushes 'n Dimples Beauty company'.........we now make accessories *Blushes 'n Dimples accessories*

Wow! Just like that, we've come to the last day of 2014, and yes we made it!!!! This is my last post of the year. I just felt that i had to do this. Thanks beautiful ladies for being with me all through the year, let's do this again in 2015.

Now counting down to the most magical time of the year.......11:59pm - 12:00am.

Besos darls!

BEAUTY TALK | How i care for my skin in the hamarttan season

Errrrr......this post should have come earlier, but it didn't because i thought that there would be no hamarttan. For some reason, hamarttan came late this december, infact the christmas week was ushered in with rainfalls.

I won't lie, i was kinda dancing for joy in my heart when the dry cold weather didn't start, i half-hoped that it wont come at all. Hamarttan and i have a love-hate relationship......Love because it brings that 'christmas smell' we all cherish, and hate because my skin, hair and nose suffers once the cold brittle wind starts blowing. My house nko? Dust every freaking where!

Anyway, today, i want to share with you all how i care for my skin in the hamarttan season. If you are in the east, you would need this information because i heard it's pretty harsh over there. As for those in Lagos, i think it's milder here but you would still need to copy this.

Lesgo there!

Q & A Series | How do i handle my dry flaky lips?

Hullo Babes!

It's been a while. Hope you had a great weekend.

It's been quite a while since our last 'Q & A Series' post. Most of the time, i just reply the questions i'm asked via email or BBM, but the ones i feel everyone would benefit from, i answer them here. Gloria needs help with her dry lips. A lot of ladies have this issue......i've worked on a lot of flaky lips, so i know. We have entered the season that deals mercilessly with lips, so these tips i want to share today would come in handy for us all.

Here goes.......

Good morning Nazor, Pls i have this annoying issue with my lips. They are always dry and flaky and always peels off. When i apply lipstick, it does not blend because of the dryness. I use chapstick or vaseline on them but the problem is still there. Please, how can i handle this issue? It can be embarassing sometimes.

EVENT| Pre-launch edition of the Beauty Press Series

Good evening lovelies…….
How have you all been?
So i was invited to the Pre-launch edition of the Beauty Press Series, organized by POPs Concepts. Yesterday was the event, and i'm glad i attended with my handbag (Zuri) in tow.
First of all, ‘What is the Beauty Press Series ?’ You ask.
Okay, the Beauty Press Series (BPS) is a platform for beauty and lifestyle bloggers, vloggers, editors and industry influencers to meet with beauty brands and companies to network and establish a connection. It is a ‘Press only’ beauty products showcase featuring brands and providing a one-on-one opportunity to get to meet brands and those behind the brands and companies.
Yesterday, we got to meet the people behind ‘Gifty’s Daughter studios’ and ‘The Makeup Maven’. Also, a representative of Sleek studios also introduces some of their new skincare products to us *by the way, we were given skincare sets to use and review…..i can't wait!*
So Brands and Companies who want to launch new products and services gets to share first-hand information straight to the beauty press audience *I totally looove my job!*
Funke of Gifty’s Daughter, Ada from Sleek Studios and Linda of Makeup Maven talked to us and also gave us goody bags *goody bags are the best!* There’s this wonderful feeling associated with getting freebies, even if it’s something you can very well afford……that feeling is sweeter than ice-cream! *loool!*
Oya ooooo! Eeeeees picture time!

But first of all, let me wish you all a happy new month! Welcome to my favourite month of the year!! *September is my birth month, but it’s not my favourite month …. Who likes getting older?*. So why is December my best month of all? Let me count the ways..
§  It has this special aura about it *the festivities and all what-nots*.

I remember when my i and my siblings were little, we used to travel to Awka every Christmas, and the anticipation and excitement no be here….chei! The whole family used to travel *including the dogs ooo!*, and the road-trips were always fun! While at the village, visitors used to troop in always, and my mum always had food ready. Some guests used to ‘dash’ us money too!

Good evening ladies…
I type this in tears. Today, i confirmed once again that God loves me soooooooo much! Yes He does.
Today, i want to testify about the saving power of God our father. The incident i’m about to recount occurred this evening.
If not for God, today i would have lost my husband *God forbid in Jesus name!*.

We just got back from Victoria Island, and my hubby drove out to return the DSTV decoder he bought just yesterday because it developed issues. While he was out, i decided to go do some washing.

B 'n D Makeover | Flame

Howdy babes!
How you doing this fine Thursday morning?
These okada riders will not ‘laputa’ someone in this Lagos. This morning on my way back from school runs, one hit my car from the back and fell ‘yakata’ on the road….hian!  Yesterday, one lad riding some yards ahead of my car made a sudden U-turn in the middle of the road. I had to brake suddenly to avoid hitting him….thank heavens there was no car behind me or even another mumu-ish okada rider.
Anyway……….
When i was thinking about what look to do, ‘Red’ came to mind. I wanted fiery eyes with some sort of glint, and nude/almost bare lips.
I didn’t have a red eyeshadow in the shade i wanted, so i grabbed my Sleek ‘Scandalous’ blush and packed it on my eyelids…..yeah, you heard me right! I used blush on my eyelids *Looooool!*. I’m sure that lots of makeup artists improvise like that. Sometimes, i use face powder as an eyeshadow sef! *If i’m going for a matte skin-tone shade on the eyes*

PRODUCT REVIEW | L.A Girl PRO.conceal

Dearly beloved
How are you doing? Good morning to you.
Today, i’m going to talk about a concealer i had heard soooo much about, so i finally bought two shades from Beauty.kink at the Beauty Africa Exhibition.

It is the L.A Girl PRO conceal HD concealer *by the way, HD means high definition*. Prior to my purchase, i was using Marykay concealers in ‘Bronze 1 & 2’, and they served me quite well. So when the beauty world went agog with raves about the L.A Girl PRO concealers, i decided to purchase one or two and share my findings with you so you’ll get to know if it’s worth the buy or not.

99.3 Nigeria Info giveaway training session in pictures.

Hello babes!

So this morning, i woke up and checked my blog, only for me to discover that my blog pageviews have reached 700,000 in my absence. OMG!!! Infact, it was 702,220, and i couldn’t hold back my whoop of joy! Only a blogger would know what a big deal page views are, and i owe it all to you my amazing readers. You ladies *and guys* are the best * i must find a way to give back to you all*. Without you, there would be no ‘Blushes ‘n Dimples’ blog……..God bless you all immensely.

Remember when i was interviewed on 99.3 Nigeria Info fm ? 3 listeners won 2 weeks training sessions. The training ended yesterday, and it was a wonderful experience. Folake and Adetoun came with their models, and they did so well. However, the last person never showed up.
I’m always blessed with students that learn really fast…..or maybe i’m just a good teacher *sticks out tongue*.

Here are pictures from the sessions….

Laserderm Skin care Clinic

Hey beauties…….
Have you heard of the skincare outfit called ‘Laserderm Clinics Ltd’?
Laserderm clinics is a skincare clinic which offers a variety of therapeutic and cosmetic procedures to treat and care for your skin right here in Nigeria.
Here’s what they have to say about acne……

“Acne is one of the most common skin disorders which occurs in adolescence and unfortunately never seem to go away, while some occur at a later age, say late 20s and early 30s. This condition has multifactorial pathogenesis.
When oil or sebum and bacteria are clogged in the skin with dead skin cells, a pimple or acne surfaces.
That pimple is an inflammatory response that attempts to heal the skin, and when there is excessive inflammation, the resulting infection can become more difficult to manage and can result into acne scars.
Laserderm Clinics offer new, safe, effective and clinically proven treatment options for acne.”

For more information or for further discussion, you can contact them at:
Tel:  08126777778 08052777778
Address: Laserderm Clinics Ltd
Plot 1059 Agbagbon Close, Off Ologun Agbaje Street,
Off Adeola Odeku, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Or

33 Akin Osiyemi Street,
Off Allen Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos.

So if you are battling with a skin disorder, book an appointment with them and let them treat you. Thank goodness they are right here in Nigeria.

PRODUCT REVIEW | Cover Girl 'Lash blast length' mascara

Hello lovelies…..
I’ve been soooo busy lately. As in my days are packed with so much activity, and at night, when i’m supposed to blog, i just snuggle under my covers and snore away *hubby says i snore sometimes. I dunno if its true…..maybe i do when preggers sha*. Even right now as i type this post, i feel soooooooo exhausted and sleepy, and i can't count how many times my eyes have closed all by themselves. I'm sha warning you 'cos there might be 'gbagauns' (typos) in this post, if you find any, graciously ignore. Thanks you.

So i purchased this Cover Girl ‘Lash blast length’ mascara from the ‘Beauty Kink’ stand at the exhibition *shebi i said i would review my mini-haul one-by-one?*. While i was scanning the display with my eyes, what got me was the packaging *yellow is such a cheery colour*.

B 'n D Makeover | Purple 'n Green Fusion

Dearly beloved, I’ve been sooooo busy lately! But you see this money? We musto make it!

The day i did this look, Omawunmi’s song titled ‘Megbele’ was playing non-stop. I know i’m late to the parry and it’s an old song, but like my igbo people would say “Mgbe onye jiri teta n’ura bu ututu ya” (Whenever one wakes up, that’s his/her morning). I have no idea what was being said in the song but ‘Megbele’ is a jam! The bass guitar in the song was just dope! Infact ehn……….
Anyway, when i lugged up my makeup box, i had no particular look in mind, so i decided to go with the flow. All i knew was that i wanted to use my ‘Duke’ lipstain, and that i wanted an unconventional look. So, this is what i came up with…
A purple and green look…

There's no law that states that we must wear matching earings....is there?

PRODUCT REVIEW | NYKE pressed powder

Hello beauties….
One of the exhibitors at the Beauty Africa Exhibition & Conference was ‘The Beautiful Paradise’ a cosmetics, boutique and skin care store.
At their stand, i was given a pressed powder to use and review. It’s called ‘NYKE’, and it’s distributed by The Beautiful Paradise.

NYKE is an oil blotting pressed powder, and i like it because it applies smoothly over my foundation. I was given the ‘Toffee’ shade.

Rain Vedutti Photography

Hello dears…..
How are we doing today? Hope good.
Y’all know how important good photos are. Infact, photography is a very important part of an event (wedding, child dedication, parties), because after it’s  all over, your photos are all you are left with.  Just imagine yourself having an awesome-tastic wedding, and looking forward to seeing the pictures, hoping that the event was captured in all its glory….wouldn’t it  be great to actually have wonderful pictures to behold? What if you hired a photographer and he made a royal mess of it all? *Oh the painment!*. You also don't want those ones who use embarassing concepts like asking the groom to lie down on the floor or asking the groomsmen to kneel on all fours while the bridesmaids sit on their backs....loooool! .
Ok, so i want to introduce to you all one of the best photographers i know……
*Drum rolls*

B 'n D Makeover | Smokey Siren

Good morning beauties…..
Nice Saturday morning we’re having….however, i woke up on the wrong side of the bed *lemme not bore you with details*. Anyhoo, all is well now….i gave myself serious pep-talk and the sun is shining again!
This look was christened ‘Smokey Siren’…need i say why? Ok because the eyes are smokey and the lips are red. You see my love for smokey looks? It shall never die! *Shame to bad people!* Loool! I kid.
My plan was to use black glitter over the black smokey shadows, but i was too lazy to go downstairs to my studio to get the black glitter, so i opted for the gold glitter i had upstairs *shakes my head at myself*.
I sha know that if i had used the black glitter, the look would have come out much better than this.
Oya view pictures….

Fix it! | Broken pressed powder.

Good morning beauties……
‘Tis another ‘Fix it!’ segment, and this time we’ll be fixing a broken powder.
You know how messy a broken pressed powder can be….pouring all over the place when you try to open it, and making a mess of your makeup purse, and eventually you toss it.
Well, not anymore! Why toss it when you can fix it? We all know that makeup ain’t cheap, so stop tossing and start fixing.

I talked about my dried out M.A.C fluidline eyeliner in ‘Black track’ some posts back, and i said i would figure out a way to save it. I thought visine could do the trick, but it failed woefully. I’m still working on it though….it will be fixed somehow.
Please note that this ‘Fix it!’ pictorial can also be used to fix a broken blush. You can even use these same steps to turn your loose powder into a pressed one *i detest loose powders*.

PICTORIAL | The winged eyeliner.

Good morning Dolls…..
How are you doing? I’m free this morning, so i decided to do a blog post. Thank God Dindu and Mish are at school, so i have some peace and quiet. However, i have Zuri with me, and she’s just an easy baby….bless her! She doesn’t cry unnecessarily, and as long as she has a full tummy and a dry diaper on, she’ll be content to just lie down beside me rolling, making faces, playing, blabbering or chewing her hands.
If the other two were here, it woulda been a different story. I would have been constantly interrupted by them..
“Mummy, can i talk?”
I nod absent-mindedly
“Dindu ate my sausage”
Or
“Mummy, acho’m lollipop” (Mummy i want lollipop) *She's making an attempt to speak igbo small small…yaaaay!*
Or
“Mummy, Mish is pouring water on the floor!”
Bottom-line is…i would not blog in peace! So, i thank tha Lord for this morning.

So at the end of yesterday’s post, i mentioned a winged eyeliner pictorial. Naomi one of my contacts on BBM requested this pictorial, and i promised her that i would see what i can do about it. Yesterday, i did something abourrrit, and i’ll try to make this as detailed as possible.

PRODUCT REVIEW | Zaron gel liner in 'Jazz'

Howdy beauties….
Sorry about the break in transmission, my wifi got disconnected for a while, but we’re back up and running…..thank goodness!
So how ya been? Great i hope.
I promised a review of the new Zaron gel eyeliner in ‘Jazz’ which i bought at the Beauty Africa Exhibition & Conference *infact, i have a number of products to review, we’ll get to all of them one by one*. The first time i read about the gel liners was on Stella DimokoKorkus’s blog *there are 3 shades*, and right then, i knew i had to have at least one of them…..of course it had to be the ‘Jazz’. Thankfully, Zaron had a stand right at the entrance of the exhibition hall, so when i had a chance, i went up there and purchased a pot from Mary Jane.

Beauty Africa Exhibition & Conference (More pictures)

Hallo beauties…
I haff come again with more pictures from the Beauty Africa Exhibition & Conference.
No i won’t stop.
‘Because of why?’ You ask…..
Well, because i really want you to see what a swell event it was, and also because i want those of you who missed it for nothing’s sake to regret making that choice, so that you will plan to come next year *Mnneeeein…..nkooooin to you* (In Mish’s voice…..yes she says ‘Nkoooin’ instead of ntoooin).
Oh hey! Did you notice that i have bought my own domain? Yeah, i did…..It’s no longer .blogspot.com, rather its now .com. My dears, i had to ooo! I had no idea that the powers that be could delete someborri’s blog just like that. N’ofu ntabi anya (in the blink of an eye)……now you see me and now you don’t. Well, you prolly didn’t notice because i bought the domain, and then i redirected my blog to the new domain, so even if you type in my blogspot address, it would take you to my .com address *cool huh?* The ministry is moving.
What was i saying again? Pictures! Oya…..lesgoo there!

Kiddies store alert!! | Tender hands & Feet

Good afternoon beauties
This post is dedicated to the mums and aunties in the house….
You know how i love to share when i discover nice places and things? I found a kiddies store today! *Whoop-whoop!*.
I know that this blog is about all things beauty, but hey, i’m a mum and i know that there are lots of other mums who read my blog. Sometimes, it can be hard to find things you need for your kids……yes, there are lots of kiddies stores everywhere, but trust me, you can walk in and out of some of them without finding what you need or buying anything at all. Some stock their stores with drab-looking things.

So here’s introducing ‘Tender feet & hands’, a lovely ‘lil store that has all a mum needs. Not all stores have me ‘wow-ing’, staring and touching, but this one did! And the best part is that it’s not even far from my place at all. There are some items i had been looking for which i found here.

B 'n D Makeover | 'Pink Candy'

Good evening.
Today, i felt the urge to do a bright and colorful look. When it was time to choose the colors, i was torn between yellow & green and pink & blue. However, the latter won over the former…..so pink and blue it was!

I almost didn’t do this look today though ‘cos today was just soooo stressful. I had too much errands to run, and i eventually finished them all around 4:30pm, all on an empty stomach. Then it was time to cook *by the way, i really don’t like cooking….i do it because i have to*. I eventually had to multitask…..that’s how i ended up cooking and applying my makeup at the same time. Of course that required me climbing up and down the stairs several times *well, it’s good exercise for my thunder-thighs*.
