Ombre 101 | How to achieve 'ombre' lips.

Howdy…..
I hope today went well……if it didn’t, there’s tomorrow anyway.
So after i mentioned doing an ‘Ombre lips’ pictorial in yesterday’s post, i went to bed thinking about it and i was like “Why wait? Why not do it right away?”. So this evening after i woke up from a reeeally long nap *body no be fire wood*, i set to work.
I did 4 different colors of ‘Ombre’…..Black and red, Black and purple, Pink and white, Brown and white. Using step-by-step pictures, I’m going to show you how i got the lips done.

*WARNING! This post is loaded with pictures….31 of them atink…….so brace yourselves*
Before we start, here are some points you should note…
·      The key to perfect ‘ombre’ lips is blending. You need to blend the colors well into each other .
·      Using a lip gloss is not a must, but it helps you blend the colors perfectly.
·      You only need to blend out the area where the two colors meet….don’t over-blend.

BLACK & RED OMBRE……

I started with the Black and red ombre lips. In the picture below are the tools i used. The baby wipes is used for wiping the lip brush often to make sure that you don’t get color where you don’t need it *I’ll explain more in a bit*.

Baby wipes, Lip brush, EOS lip balm, Absolute clear lipgloss, NYX jumbo pencil in 'Bean', M.A.C Lipstick in 'Ruby woo', One red lipgloss like that.....dunno the name.

I used the Jumbo pencil to line the outer part of my lips, then i used my M.A.C ‘Ruby woo’ in the inner part. I blended them both together and then used a clear lipgloss over the black area while i used the red lip gloss over the red area.
Lined the lips with black....if you dont have a black jumbo pencil, any black pencil will do.

Blended out the black

Applied red in the middle

Blended them together....blend only the point where the two colors meet

Applied clear lip gloss on the black areas

Applied red lipgloss on the red areas.......finished lips!

Now, here is how the baby wipes came in handy…..after i applied the black color using the lip brush, i had to wipe the brush before applying the red color so that the red won't come out stained with black. Also while applying the lipgloss, after i used the brush to apply the clear lipgloss over the black areas, i wiped the brush again before i used it to apply red lipgloss to the red areas *I really hope you got it*.

BLACK & PURPLE OMBRE

Baby wipes, Lip brush, EOS lipbalm, Absolute clear lipgloss, NYX jumbo pencil in 'Bean', My makeup lipstick in 'Purple haze'

Lined and blended out the black pencil

Applied purple in the middle

Blended the two colors together

Applied clear lipgloss on the black areas

Applied clear lipgloss on the purple areas too

For the black & purple ombre, i used the black jumbo pencil to line my lips again, and then i applied my ‘purple haze’ lipstick in the middle. I blended them both together and then i used a clear lipgloss over the black and the purple areas *i don’t have a black or a purple lipgloss*

 PINK & WHITE OMBRE

Baby wipes, lip brush, EOS lip balm, Absolute clear lipgloss, BM|Pro lipgloss in 'Cala', Zaron lipliner in 'Fussy fushia', Flormar pink lipstick, NYX jumbo pencil in 'Milk'

Applied and blended out lip liner

Applied lipstick on the outer parts

White jumbo pencil in the inner parts

Blended them together

Clear lipgloss on the pink areas

White 'Cala' lipgloss on the white area

For the pink and white ombre, i used my Zaron ‘fussy fushia’ lipliner to line my lips, then i used the pink flormar lipstick all over my outer lips. Next, i filled in the inner part with my jumbo pencil in ‘milk’ *looks white to me anyway*. Then i blended them both together and used a clear lipgloss on the pink areas while i used my BM|Pro lipgloss in ‘Cala’ on the white areas.

BROWN & WHITE OMBRE

Baby wipes, EOS lip balm, lip brush, Jordana lip liner in 'Hot cocoa, NYX jumbo pencil in 'Milk', Absolute clear lipgloss, BM|Pro lipgloss in 'Cala', Brown flormar lipstick

Lined lips with 'Hot cocoa' pencil and blended it out

Applied brown flormar lipstick on the outer parts

Jumbo pencil on the inner parts

All blended out

Clear lipgloss on the brown areas

White 'Cala' lipgloss on the white areas

Finally, for this look, i used my Jordana lip liner pencil in ‘Hot cocoa’ to line my lips, then i applied my brown flormar lipstick on the outer part of my lips. Next, i applied the white jumbo pencil in the inner part and then blended the colors together. I used a clear lipgloss over the brown areas and then i used the white ‘Cala’ lipgloss over the white areas.

Stick a fork in me......i'm done!
My best is the brown & white, second best is the pink & white. By the way, this is the exact pink and white ombre lips that i used for my birthday look.

I hope this pictorial helped even a tiny ‘lil bit .... You're welcome!!!
Besos and good night.

  6. My Fav is the pink and white and brown and white, I don't like the red and black much, it reminded me of those early make up days when we use black eye liner for every thing.

  12. I love the brown and then the pink. I think i like the black and red though. It's so retro, yet beautiful. It's a very detailed pictorial, but a video would have done the job better. When would we start watching your makeup videos?
