Holiday look collaboration with Chloe's Makeovers

Merry Christmas everyone!!!

I'm so grateful to God for yet another Christmas day....

So, Doyin (Chloe's Makeover) and i collaborated to do a holiday look *yippieeeeeeee! yaaaaaaaaay!*. I'm especially excited because since all my years of blogging, this is my very first collabo.

It wasn't difficult thinking up what look to do and how to combine the Christmas colors....Of course it had to be red glittery lips!

I must warn you though....this is a picture-heavy post....

Y'all know that the Christmas colors are Red, Gold and Green, hence the Gold eyes, Green eyeliner and Red lips. I had gorgeous red glitter on my lips. I wish you could have seen it in beautiful!

PRODUCT REVIEW | Ajali Raw sugar body polish in 'Peppermint'

Good morning!

Christmas is in 4 days, but it doesn't feel like Christmas to me.......and i'm sure you'll agree. Where did our hamarttan go? It doesn't feel like Christmas without it.

Yeaah, i know i really hate the hamarttan season, but it helps set the mood for Christmas *sad face*. I don't understand what is going on with the climate and everything.

Anyway, it just occurred to me this morning that i hadn't posted my review of the Ajali raw sugar body polish i bought at the Beauty Africa Exhibition & Conference......i'm going to make this short 'n sweet.

First, let's talk about the packaging. Don't you just love the little jar you see in the picture? And i especially love the fact that it's made of plastic not bottle. The rubber on the mouth of the jar cover helps seal it very properly so that oil doesn't spill out.

B 'n D Makeover | Barely there

Good morning!

I hear Trump is winning, but who cares? God is still God and will always remain God ....... that's all that matters to me. That's all that should matter to you too *smiles*.

So i did this look on my face 2 days ago. You know that situation where you have a particular look in mind and end up doing another look totally different from the one you pictured? Yup, that happened to me again *quite frankly, it happens to me a lot!*. I had a dark smokey look in mind with a very unusual eyeliner, and perhaps nude lips.....infact, that will be a look for another day.

I absolutely loved this look by the time i was done. It took me about an hour and 30 minutes to do, not because i was getting rusty, but because i thoroughly enjoyed doing the look, so i wasn't in any hurry at all.

I took quite a number of pictures and i had a hard time selecting the ones to post on the blog, by the time i was done selecting, i still had a lot of pictures in my camera.....i'll just go on ahead and post them all *sorry!*.

PRODUCT REVIEW | Bath Kandy 'Luminous Exfoliating Bar' (Garri Scrub)

One of the skin products i bought at the 'Beauty Africa Exhibition & Conference' is the Luminous exfoliating bar *also known as the 'Garri scrub'* from the Bath Kandy stand.

While walking around the exhibition area i was suddenly hit with a mix of very pleasant smells. I let my nose guide me, and so i found myself in front of the Bath Kandy stand.

Now, Bath Kandy is the first handcrafted, food-inspired, bath & body store in Nigeria. All their products are made of food *as in they are infused with real food ingredients* or inspired by food. Their candles looks like Cupcakes or Ice cream, some of their soaps look like in you have to stare at them for a long time and also touch them to be certain that they are not indeed ice-cream or cupcakes. Oh, and they smell 'ah-may-zing'!

I bought the 'Garri scrub' which is made of real Garri. It is a very moisturizing exfoliating scrub, and it is made of Almonds, Rice, Cocoa Butter, Garri *of course!* and a special blend of oils and butters. They must have done their homework while creating the blend of those oils and butters because the smell........oh the smell!

B 'n D Makeover | 'Greenish'

The last time i beat my face was for the Beauty Africa Exhibition & Conference.....the last time i beat my face before that was like 3 years ago .... well, that's not true, but it seems that way.

So yesterday, out of the blues i whipped out my brushes and beat my face 'blue-black'....or rather 'green-red' *looool*.

Amoshine when amoshine

I'm really loving this deep shade of red lipstick. It's called 'Diva' by M.A.C, and if you follow this blog, you will notice that i've used it for quite a number of makeup looks.

D.I.Y | Setting Spray

Seems like years ago when i published my last D.I.Y post.

I had totally forgotten about the pending 'Setting spray' post until i scrolled through my draft messages *yup, i have many of those*. That's where i saw it and my mouth hung could i have forgotten? And you people didn't even remind me sef *side-eyes*. Maybe it's not even important to you guys, but you know what? I'll just leave it here anyway whether you like it or not *clicks tongue*.

All you need to make your own Setting spray is a spray bottle, water and glycerine. That's all.
I bought a bottle of the Pure glycerine for about N1000, and the spray bottle cost about N150.

The Beauty Africa Exhibition & Conference 2016 (In pictures)

Dearly beloved.....

This morning, i bring you pictures from the just concluded Beauty Africa Exhibition & Conference. As usual, it was a raving success, and i was glad to have been a part of it.

The Speakers and facilitators were on point, and there were lots of new brands from different countries displaying and exhibiting their products.

There was quite a large number of attendees, and i'm sure they had an unforgettable experience. They gleaned knowledge from the professionals in the industry, asked them questions and got direct answers....that doesn't happen everyday you know.....and for free too!

*WARNING..... this is a picture heavy post*

Lets scroll through the pictures shall we?

Spot Doyin of  'Chloes Makeovers' wearing the black and white polka dots blouse and Adaobi of  'Dobzi Fingers' with the red shawl and the big smile.

Fatima Mamza started by showing us how to achieve a simple Nigerian bridal look. Her model was so beautiful...infact, there was a selection of very beautiful models for the demonstrations.

Show 'n Tell | Eye Brushes from Makeup Heaven

Hello everyone....

How's your day going? Happy independence holiday.

So i finally got myself a brush mat. If you remember, when i did a review of the brush egg i got at the makeup fair, i said i was going to get a brush mat to make wash-days easier. I got the brush mat from @makeupheavennigeria, and they were kind enough to gift me a set of eye brushes!

By the way, i made the brush holder myself.

PRODUCT REVIEW | Sonia Kashuk lipsticks

Howdy beauties...

Hope everyone is good.

At the last Lagos Makeup Fair (LMUF), the highlighter wasn't the only product i bought from the Sonia Kashuk stand......i also bought two lipstick tubes. I really wanted new nude shades *well, because one can never have too many nude lipsticks*, so when i got to the Sonia Kashuk stand for the highlighter which i already had on my list, i asked to see their nude lipstick shades. They handed me the shades in 'Currant' and 'Barely nude' and that was it. They were just the shades i was looking for.

'Currant' is a dark-brownish nude, while 'Barely nude' is a light-brownish nude *hope that makes sense*.

I like the packaging the lipsticks have, and you don't have to pull off the cover to see the shade of the lipstick because the glass/plastic part of the cover has the exact shade of the lipstick in it.

Tales Of A Nigerian Mum | Zuri says the darndest things!

One of my favourite things about children is how they are effortlessly funny. They do and say the most hilarious things...and the best part is they do it innocently, totally oblivious of their comedian/comedienne characteristics. They would be dead serious while you are almost toppled over with laughter.

My Zuri is 2 years old, but i suspect she has the brain of a 6 years old child. I really don't know how she thinks up the things she says. Does she ponder over them for a while before saying them, or does she just blurt them out as they pop into her head? *looool*. Everyday, she cracks us up at home. Just a few incidences comes to mind right now.

Just the other day, their noise and antics were getting on my nerves, and i gave them a loud warning,

"Bia, i will beat somebody oh!"

And Zuri shouts back at me from the other room...

"Beat yourself!"

Seriously, this girl is just 2 years old.

Every morning, we have a fight about clothes. My cousin would dress her up in mufti for summer classes, and Zuriel will march into my room and declare,

"Mummy, i don't like this cloth!"

Sometimes, i just won't have the will-power in me to fight, and i'll let her have her way and pick out oddly matching clothes, and other times, i decide that she can't always have what she wants. So when i insist that she must wear the clothes i pick out, she starts making excuses,

"The cloth is kwaching me" * The cloth is scratching me*, or "This shirt is 'tighting' me". Sometimes she claims it's no longer her size! "Eeees not my size!".

One day, we were driving home from school, and off the top of her head Zuriel said to me from the back of the car,

"Mummy, buy a puppy for a goat for Dindu and Muwati" *She calls her sister Muwati*. It was sooooo funny! What on earth did she mean by that? Why would she want me to buy a goat for her siblings? Was that really off the top of her head or had she been thinking about it for some time?

She's so quick to say "Sowwy Mummy, i wee not do it again" when she does something bad and sees that i'm really upset. And sometimes, she just comes into my room and says "Sowwy Mummy, sowwy", and i wouldn't know why she's sorry until much later when i find what she's done.

Over the weekend, we went over to my parent's house for a sleep-over. That Saturday morning before we left, i tried to make them hurry up getting ready because it was environmental sanitation day, and i really wanted to beat the traffic that starts accumulating after 10am.

"Dindu, you need to hurry because we need to leave exactly at 10am ."

"Why?"  *That boy questions every single thing! Eissssh!*

"Well because there will be traffic after 10am, so i need us to leave by 10 am.... that way, we can beat the traffic". I explained.

Zuri stopped scribbling with her crayons, looked at me and said, "Nooooo mummy......don't beat it!"

"Don't beat what?" I was confused.

"Don't beat traffic" she said.

We all had a good laugh that morning....especially Dindu and Munachi *looool!*. Apparently, she thought i was going to beat/flog the traffic.

The day we were supposed to come back home, i reminded them of how the last time we went to Grandma's house, we were stuck in traffic for 3 i told them again that we had to leave early so that we don't get stuck in traffic again....

And out of nowhere, my tiny human said,

"Mummy, beat it"

B 'n D Makeover | Ft. Nonso

I would like y'all to meet my darling Nonso, the wonderful lady who taught me how to bead. Kind-hearted, beautiful Nonso. Side note to guys....she's taken *yes, i know guys read this blog*. Hot mum of three. Baby-la-hot!

When i say 'Fine girl, no pimples', i mean fine girl, no pimples.

This chick has one of the smoothest, freshest, clearest skin i've ever come across on this makeup-journey, and i had the pleasure of working on her face few weeks ago.

I've been having this wonderful headache since yesterday night, and this morning i felt like a truck ran me over. You won't believe me if i told you that i haven't stepped out of my room all day.....would you? I truly haven't *Summer lessons are over, so i didn't have to drive anywhere today* . Yup, i've been holed up in this room all day and i kinda like it because i enjoy my own company more than anything else....all i need is a good book or my phones and mifi, and i'm good.

In other news, who would be interested in submitting her face to me for about 2 hours?

Ok, let's quickly do this......

I bought this brush egg at the last LMUF (Lagos Makeup Fair).

I bought it because i was tired of washing my brushes with my hands...i usually dip the brushes in warm soapy water and then twirl it round and round in the center of my palm. That always gives me a weird feeling which i detest. So before i left for the fair, i put  '1 Brush egg' on my 'to-buy' list.

Sooooo cute!

I bought a light pink one and i've used it about 15 times since then. Once for general wash day, and the other times for random washes.

Reputable online makeup stores in Nigeria

Good Morning!

One of the questions i get asked a lot is "Where do you buy your makeup from?"

Now, the fact is that i don't buy a lot of makeup these days...gone are those days when i used to buy makeup like it was going out of fashion. These days, i only buy what i absolutely need....not what i think i want.

I hardly walk into stores to buy makeup......i do most of my makeup shopping online. The only time i buy in-store is when i attend makeup fairs and when i go to Little Extra's Store in Festac.

So, in this post, i would be sharing with you some of the reputable Nigerian Online Makeup Stores i know....some of them i have patronized, some of them i haven't.

Most of these stores listed above accept payment on delivery...isn't that just great?

The DF Store.

This is a Nigerian pre-order store which carries makeup and skin care products. They don't keep anything in stock, but anything that is made or sold in the U.S.A is available for preorder. This means that you can contact them and tell them what product you want, they buy/ order it for you over there and ship to Nigeria. They deliver all over Nigeria, which means that your products gets to your door step.

However, you have to pay to their bank account before your package is sent to you because pay-on-delivery is not possible *I'm sure you understand why*. Processing and delivery takes about 3 weeks.

I'm not sure they have an online store because they don't keep things in stock, but if you are on Instagram, follow them @the_df_store . They regularly put up pictures of products you might want to buy through them. However, if you want something that wasn't posted on their page, you can ask them for it. If you are on BBM, add them up with 569026A8. For whatsapp, contact them with plus12189797906. *My 'plus' sign is not working, so i wrote it in words before the numbers. Add your 'plus' sign before the numbers when trying to save it ok?*.

For really nice brush sets and brushmats, you can buy from Cheecheelive. Follow her blog HERE. Or add her up on BBM D1F880CE.

So, these are the online makeup stores i know. I'm sure there are some others, but these are the ones that have been brought to my attention and some of the ones i love as well.

Have fun shopping!

Beauty Africa Exhibition & Conference 2016

Good evening.....

How many of you are excited to read the title of this post? You don't know how excited i am that the Beauty Africa Exhibition & Conference is coming to Nigeria this year again! This is the third consecutive year the event would be holding in Nigeria.....*whoooop-whooooop!*.

Oh, and Blushes 'n Dimples is once again an official blogger for the event *whooop-whoooop again!* The first event in 2014 was amazing! I haven't forgotten it at all. The second one in 2015 was even better....and this year 2016, they plan to surpass the past two events!

If you attended the first two editions, i'm sure you understand what i'm talking about, and can't wait to attend this one. However, if you didn't attend any of them, here's another opportunity you don't want to miss *i wouldn't miss it if i were you!*.

The conference is aimed at all Beauty Professionals and business owners, and it's a 3-days event. There will be expert speakers from the region (Nigeria), and from across the globe as well. The speakers will showcase the latest methods and insights from each of the sectors throughout the 3 days. There will also be hour-long live demonstrations on models from Beth Model Agency.

Now, there will be something new that wasn't done at the conference of the past 2 years. This 2016, there would be a panel of experts who will be discussing the A-Z of the manufacturing of beauty products, looking at the opportunities, the red tape and logistics involved in this process.

And just like was done the last two times, there would be a dedicated session on marketing, Social media, and business opportunities for Beauty Professionals who are looking to enhance their branding. customer reach and drive revenue.

Oh, and there is a very interesting line-up of speakers...people who i'm certain that you would love to meet.

Did i mention already that attendance is free? All you need do is register HERE

I would be doing follow-up posts here to let you know all that would be happening at the Exhibition / Conference........

Stay tuned..

B 'n D Makeover | Ft. Lolade

Lolade has been a blog reader and a BBM friend for a loooong time, and about 2 weeks ago, i met her for the very first time!

She has very beautiful skin, and if not for the fact that she's a very busy person and also lives far from me, i would have loved to work on her face as often as possible.

Beautiful and clear skin plays a huge part in achieving a flawless makeup base. I thoroughly enjoyed working on Lolade's face.

PRODUCT REVIEW | Sonia Kashuk Highlighter

For a long time, i wanted a highlighter......well, because everywhere i looked on the social media, i saw glow! Blinding glow! Some looked like they bathed themselves with their highlighters, and some were just perfect and in the right places.

So at the LMUF i got the Sonia Kashuk highlighter because i had seen a few people use it on Instagram, and also because their products were on sale *you know awoof feels good*.

This highlighter comes in a gold compact case with a magnetic flap.

At first when i started using the product, it looked like it wasn't showing up at all, but it turned out that as with most new products, you have to rub the brush well into the highlighter to break the surface *because it's usually as though there's a dry layer covering the product*.

B 'n D Makeover Ft. Onyinye

Hello Chicas......

So Onyi was my muse last Thursday.

Something happens to me every time i get a muse to work on.....i'm always at a loss for what look to do. One would think that at the time i ask for a volunteer model, that i would have had a look in mind, but nooooooo! They get to my studio, i take one look at their faces and all of a sudden, about 10 different looks comes to my mind and i get confused! *looooool!*.

Eventually, i found this 'record' pattern fabric and we decided to work with it. We were like ... "Gold and Orange eyes, we would figure out what to do with the lips later". But i didn't want red.

By the time we were done with the eyes, i knew what had to go on the lips.

Product Review | Milani 2-in-1 Foundation

I bought the much talked raved about Milani foundations at the LMUF a few months ago.

If you are an avid follower of my blog, you would have noticed that the MaryKay foundations in 607 & 507 *i was in-between shades* were my go-to foundations since i started my makeup journey. Then early this year, i switched to the BlackUp foundation because a lot a fake productions of MaryKay had infiltrated the Nigerian makeup market......hence, i desperately needed change.

Now, you all know the current situation of our dear country....i need not gist y'all about how expensive everything has become ....including makeup products. i bought my BlackUp foundation bottle for about N9,500 in January, but now a bottle costs about N11,000.

However, that bottle i bought was for my personal use, and i still needed more foundation for my students at the makeup school, but there was no way i would buy more bottles at that alarming rate just for makeup nu! Chukwu aju! *God forbid*. So that's how i became torn between the Maybelline Fit-me foundation and the Milani 2-in-1 foundation.

Of course i went online and read reviews hoping to see the light, and i noticed that there were a lot of positive reviews about the Milani 2-in-1 Foundation, so i went to the Makeup Fair and bought the 3 shades Beauty Kink had at the time..... Spiced Almond, Golden Toffee, and Amber.

Tales Of A Nigerian Mum | The end of a school session

So another school session is over.....thank God!

I'm grateful to God for seeing us through the 3 terms. The school runs, the tears of separation anxiety (Zuri of course) the home-works, the extra lessons at home, the rehersals, the school meetings, the graduation, and of course the school fees! *school fees for 3 kids in this current economy is not a beans*.

Dindu is officially done with Year 1 (pry 1) and is going on to Year 2 (pry 2), Mish has graduated from the nursery school and is going to Year 1....oh, her birthday was last week Tuesday and we had a Ballerina-themed photoshoot done. For the past few days, she keeps saying to me, "Mummy i'm a big girl now..i'm 5 years old!" Zuri on the other hand is still in her pre-nursery years. This past session was her very first session at school, and she will be going to the next pre-nursery class.

Zuri's first term at school, she didn't cry for even one day. I was really worried about her because i remembered how Dindu and Mish bawled every morning throughout their very first terms at school. I dreaded the day Zuriel would start school, but guess what? The chic didn't even shed one single tear, and i was like "Oh? very well then" looool!

Then came the holidays and they spent some weeks at home. When we resumed for the second term, that was when Zuri turned on the water-works. She had gotten used to staying at home during the holidays, and then when she resumed school and saw her 'colleagues' crying, she decided to cry along with them for about a week.....after that week, we were good.

Third term, she didn't cry at all, but she opened up at school. She loved school so much that every morning she'll go downstairs before everyone else and stand beside the car with her bag and wait for us to finish whatever it was we were doing upstairs and get down so we could leave for school already! She participated fully during class activities and answered questions when asked. She could identify her colours, shapes and numbers and everything else. Almost everyday she went to school, she came home with a Star and a 'Smiling face' drawn on the back of her hand. She did so well this last session, and she got an award as a Outstanding Student at the end of the session! Zuri made us soooo proud!

Mish the little Ballerina struggled for a bit with her spellings because at the beginning of the 2nd term when her class was introduced to spellings, she wasn't in school. Oh, but she picked up alright!

She also did very well throughout the session *school fees ain't wasting*.

Finally, Mr Dindu excelled! He only struggles with ICT and Music ... and those are the subjects he got 'C's' in. The rest were A's and B's *10 A's, 3 B's and 2 C's precisely*.  Super proud parents we are!!! If i don't celebrate them, who will?

So we are looking forward to the next session starting in September, but in the mean-time, i'm thinking of enrolling them for summer lessons so as to give them a head-start for first term...that way, whatever they will be taught in the first term of the new school session won't be new to them. Also, i can't imagine 8 weeks of chaos with these munchkins at home...loooool! It's only been 1 week and they are doing my head in already.

Biko, they should go to school jare! That's their work. Let me face my own work.

D.I.Y | Face Primer

Good morning dolls...

So i found some D.I.Y recipes which i would be sharing with you over the next couple of weeks *or something like that*.

This economy isn't smiling, and the prices of makeup products have's just alarming! I don't think there are any foundations below N4,000 anymore. It's alarming i tell we have to find ways to cut costs *somehow*.

All the ingredients used in these pictorials are perfectly safe on the skin.

So today, i'll be sharing a pictorial with you on how to make your own face primer. You will need :

  1. Aloevera gel
  2. Almond oil
  3. Water
  4. A small bottle or jar

B .n D Makeover | Ft. Ella

Hey Dolls!

So today, i got to meet Ella and give her a makeover. She has this very soft and pretty look, and also had a striking resemblace to about 3 people i know *looool!*.

I had two ankara materials to choose from, so i had a hard time choosing between smokey eyes with brownish nude lips and pink eyes with pinkish nude lips *both inspired by the ankara materials*. We eventually did the smokey look as you can see.

I suck terribly at photo editing, but let's just manage these ones shall we?

PRODUCT REVIEW | ColourPop Ultra Matte lipgloss in 'Lychee'

Good evening...

I bought this liquid lipstick months ago, and didn't use it until recently. It's a bright purple.... and i  didn't know that it would be that bright. So i never used it....until the day i swatched it for the purpose of a blog review.

How are you all doing? Good, i hope.

Let's get to the review then.

It's the ColourPop Ultra Matte lipgloss in 'Lychee'.

Why does it seem like liquid lipsticks are taking over the makeup world though? Not for me sha...i still like my good old-fashioned tube lipsticks which don't dry out my lips and make them feel like they're going to tear if i smile.
