The thing about makeup products , tools, and makeup application methods is that they keep evolving. There are always new trends to keep up with. Remember when there was the ‘Ben Nye banana powder’ and the ‘Sacha buttercup setting powder’ rave? Then came the craze about ‘baking’ our faces. The Beauty Blender sponge also came out and everyone just had to have it…now, it’s the SiliSponge!
The Molly Cosmetics brand in Hong-Kong created the SiliSponge, and it has sold out and re-stocked about 8 times already! It is made out of silicone, and it is cruelty-free and paraben-free.
The first time i saw a video of the Silisponge on Instagram, i thought it was very silly. I think i even hissed out loud sef, but then, i went ahead and bought one for the sake of a review for my loyal blog readers.
· I expected the sponge to be bigger than it actually is, but it’s quite small and fits into the palm of my hand.
· It’s not actually a sponge, so I don’t understand why it’s called that. Isn’t a sponge supposed to soak in products? This one doesn’t do that, so it’s not exactly a sponge.
· It is really smooth and bouncy. The silicone is inside while the outer part is made of thermoplastic polyurethane which is a flexible plastic that is resistant to oil and grease.
Now, the main reason why I really like this sponge *we’re really calling it a sponge aren’t we?* is the fact that it does not soak up your foundation at all. Well, that is expected since it is covered with flexible plastic. As a result of that also, it is very easy to clean. All you need to do is wash the sponge with water or clean it with wipes and spray it with alcohol….there!
HOW TO USE………
Applying your foundation with the Silisponge does take some practice and getting used to. First of all, it’s small, so it’s going to slip out of your fingers for a start.
It would take you a little time to figure out how to hold it and what motions to use when applying your foundation with it.
Should you apply by dabbing your foundation into the skin or by rubbing it in circular motions? Both methods worked for me and they should for you as well once you get used to the sponge.
You can apply the foundation on your face first and then dab the silisponge on your face to blend it out evenly. You can also squeeze out the foundation on the back of your hand and pick the product up with the sponge.
I didn’t need to need to finish up with a beauty blender or a brush to get a flawless finish, just applying with the Silisponge was okay for me.....it actually blended my foundation flawlessly.
So, if you are tired of your beauty blender sponge or your foundation brush soaking up your foundation while you apply it, you should get a Silisponge. If washing your beauty blender or foundation brush is a chore, then you should also get a Silisponge. The sponge is designed to apply just the amount of foundation you squeeze onto it.
So despite my hissing and everything, i personally think the Silisponge is a good buy. It’s truly worth spending on, and it is more durable than the beauty blender. It has a lifespan of about 3 years. What’s more? It’s not even that expensive.
Have you used the Silisponge? What are your thoughts?
